While all animals are precious and important to our existence, some aren't as cute and cuddly as we'd expect. There are a lot of ugly animals out there, from the naked mole rat to the woolly bat. Some animals are extremely difficult to look at without getting nauseous. Here are just a few of the world's ugliest animals.
The Naked Mole Rat Sure, Rufus from Kim Possible was downright adorable, but the reality is that these guys are truly horrific to look at and slimy to the touch. Rufus, it seems, was the best thing to happen to the species. They are one of nearly 30 different species of mole rat and live in large communities, led by a queen. The queen's main purpose is to procreate and raise more young, ugly, mole rats.
▲ The Woolly Bat Pintrest
These bats would even have Batman scared. Residing mostly in Asia and China, the woolly bat lives in thick forests and builds their homes in hollow trees.
▲ The Blobfish I mean, like, what even is this thing? The blobfish is located off the deep water coasts of Australia, and since their body is made up of such a soft, gooey substance, the fish can float above sea effortlessly. They also casually ingest their food by simply swallowing crabs and sea pens that happen to travel nearby. They, unfortunately, are on the brink of extinction.
▲ The Proboscis Monkey Live Science
More goofy looking than ugly, the proboscis monkeys prefer to live in the trees of Borneo. They are known for their goofy, big noses and being able to flop from tree to tree. They usually travel in small groups called harems.
▲ The Aye-aye fanpop
The Aye-aye are a nocturnal lemur known for having insanely long middle fingers. It eats food that it hides under the bark of trees, and it uses its long middle finger to tap on the food to find it. It then proceeds to chew through the wood in a grotesque – albeit ugly – manner.
