No one has ever felt indifferent about New York City. It's the kind of place that you either fall in love with or can't leave fast enough. As for you, we know you love New York, because if you didn't, you couldn't tolerate living here; and if you didn't live in New York, you wouldn't be reading this. Of course, it's not up for debate that the Big Apple is a filthy, crowded, overwhelming, miraculous place, and sometimes—no matter how much you love it—you just need to get away. So, the next time you feel like you'll lose your mind if you don't see a tree soon, check out one of these easy getaways, each just a short journey from NYC!
Harriman State Park, NY
This gorgeous nature lover's destination is only an hour-and-a-half drive from NYC or a two hour ride on NJ Transit's Port Jervis Line out of Penn Station to Tuxedo. This is definitely more of a rural getaway, but if that's what you're into, then there's no better place. Harriman offers 47,000 acres of land, more than 200 miles of hiking trails, waterfalls, great views, and plenty of cozy cabins to stay in.
