No one has ever felt indifferent about New York City. It's the kind of place that you either fall in love with or can't leave fast enough. As for you, we know you love New York, because if you didn't, you couldn't tolerate living here; and if you didn't live in New York, you wouldn't be reading this. Of course, it's not up for debate that the Big Apple is a filthy, crowded, overwhelming, miraculous place, and sometimes—no matter how much you love it—you just need to get away. So, the next time you feel like you'll lose your mind if you don't see a tree soon, check out one of these easy getaways, each just a short journey from NYC!
Beacon is a hidden gem just north of the city, known for Dia:Beacon, an incredible art museum used to house installations too big for the MoMa. To get there, take the Hudson line on Metro-North from Grand Central to Beacon station, or drive 90 minutes. Beacon has an artsy, bohemian vibe, with plenty of little shops, great restaurants, and quaint hotels to keep you entertained.
