How This App Gives Me a Quick and Effective Workout Routine
If I told my high-school self that I’d be spending most of my adult life behind a desk, she’d probably think I was joking. As a former athlete, I’m not sure how I got to this point—sitting in an office, staring at a computer screen, with zero time for working out. Back then, I had the time to do a different sport each season, and go to the gym right after, no problem. I swore I would never be “that person” who does yoga in the office or has a giant fitness ball instead of a chair, but I needed a way to get in a good workout with limited time. I was complaining to a coworker about having no time to exercise, and she told me about her new favorite fitness app called Aaptiv.
Aaptiv is an app with audio fitness classes led by certified personal trainers that you can listen to on your phone, anytime, anywhere. They have just about every kind of workout you can think of. Each workout has its own custom playlist, and I was pleasantly surprised to see how many classes were offered. In fact, they had ones short enough to fit into a half-hour window before work. It was exactly what I was looking for—workouts I could do on my schedule. I also loved that I could download classes to use at the gym for when I found the time to go.
The first class I tried was the full-body beginner strength training class, “Stamina Push,” taught by Mike, one of the more technical trainers. I hadn’t been coached since high school, so Mike’s passionate and motivational style was extremely helpful. He constantly reminded me to focus on quality rather than quantity, and kept me focused on my form. I did a variation of planks, squats, and push-ups, all set to a pop/hip-hop playlist. I loved how he counted down the seconds left in each set so I was able to push through each time. The class was only sixteen minutes long but still felt like a good workout, and was a perfect way to start my day.
Finding workouts that fit my busy schedule has never been easier. The best part is I can do a quick class before going to work. On the weekends, I love trying the longer outdoor running classes since I have more time. Over the last few weeks, I’ve tried a variety of strength training classes and a few of the shorter runs. New classes are added every Monday and because there are so many classes to choose from, workouts never get stale. Even with all the time I spend behind a desk, I’m starting to feel less like a blob and more like myself. Thanks to Aaptiv, I’m finally getting good workouts in, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
