How to save money at practically every step of a vacation plan

Traveling can cost a lot of money, but there are ways to save

Traveling is expensive. It's unfortunate, but true. However, there are many avenues that might not have even crossed your mind that you can use to save money. This doesn't stop with cheap flight deals or discounted hotels. You can continue saving money on meals and even attractions. Here are a few less obvious tips to save money on your next trip.

1. Travel

Travel doesn't have to mean flying, but most of the time it does. When you're hunting for the cheapest flights, checking sites that will compare airlines can be useful. However, if you're brand loyal or have some kind of membership, you'll probably get a better deal out of sticking to your preferred airline.

When you're looking for flights, always browse in Incognito Mode. This is what Google Chrome calls its private browsing mode. Every other major web browser offers the same feature. This mode will keep travel sites from knowing how often you've visited and when. Airlines often use this information to increase the prices steadily to entice you to buy before it goes out of your range. Incognito Mode circumvents that eventuality and makes it easier for you to make smart travel decisions. Additionally, once you've arrived, give public transport a try over renting a car or grabbing a cab. That will save you plenty of money day to day.

2. Hotel

Hotels can get pretty pricey — especially in tourist areas. Instead of booking a traditional hotel, why not try out Airbnb? The website allows hosts to list extra rooms or apartments for rent to travelers. Many of the places are offered at a fraction of the cost of a traditional hotel room. If you hunt for a good deal, you can find a decent room for as little as $50 or even $20 a night. That's a huge expense cut down very easily.

Airbnb is great for those looking to get a more native feel for the city they're visiting. Your host will probably even offer up their favorite local spots and tips on how to enjoy the most out of your stay.

3. Meals

Even though you're likely on vacation, you don't need to eat out for every meal. Yes, there will be restaurants and eaters that you won't want to miss. But for the most part, you can cut back on eating out and save a lot of cash. After you arrive, go for a quick grocery trip.

Depending on your itinerary, you might want to buy a little or a lot. If you're really only set on eating at two specific restaurants, you can get more groceries. If not, you can still get some breakfast items and maybe a few snacks. This is not only a way to save money, but you can also have the comforts of home while you're away.

4. Attractions

Some big attractions will be unavoidably expensive, but most will not be. You can often find discounts during off times or through apps like Groupon. Many cities offer city passes that get you admission to several attractions for a discounted price.

If you're visiting New York and want to see a Broadway show, looking for standing room only or rush tickets. These are heavily discounted compared to the average seat. Other shows like this around the world will likely offer some more affordable option.
