There are a few unspoken rules about adult life that no one shares. The first is that no one knows how to do their taxes. The second is that you have to clean a bunch more often than you feel like, so your mom wasn’t crazy for constantly buzzing about the house dusting. I’m not a huge traveler myself, but I do take a lot of weekend trips. Whether I’m visiting a friend, or heading to the beach, I’ve found many carryalls to act as a substitute for a weekend bag. Yes, I’ve used trash bags, reusable plastic supermarket bags, and the oldest duffel known to man.

But as the gap between my college days and “real life” grows, I’ve noticed a shift in the travel trendscape. It’s less acceptable to tote around battered old luggage and more popular to use cute travel sets.

TL;DR: Although the Béis Weekender bag looks great and has smart design features like a dedicated shoe compartment and structured build, it’s bulky and rigid. So, it’s tough to fit in small trunks or squish under tight overhead bins. The reviewer ultimately found it impractical for frequent travelers due to its lack of flexibility, despite its stylish appeal.

With a compartment underneath for shoes and wet bathing suits, Beís changed the travel game. Now, hundreds of brands are offering similar styles — each with its particular version of fabric or functionality.

But I can’t help but have one simple problem: for the most part, they’re unrealistic. As a trend-follower, anthropologist, and consumer, I had to get my own Beís Weekender Bag to see what all the fuss is about.

And while I wanted to love it, I found a few things I worried about.

The Problem With The Weekender Bag

First and foremost, the bag went viral for all the wrong reasons. Then people quickly realized the Beís bag was too bulky to fit under some plane seats. But I found the bag is quite structured. And due to the separate leather shoe compartment, you can’t squash it. So, be careful when stowing it!

As someone who drives a small vehicle, it was a bit of a problem. With limited trunk space, I had a tough time accommodating two Weekender Bags. But Beís resolved the problem by making a Mini Weekender and offering a more expensive iteration of the regular Weekender with a completely detachable leather compartment…which means you’ll sacrifice some packing space.

The leather shoe carries one pair of shoes. You may have better luck fitting hair tools, your devices, or beauty products in there.
