Now that Spooky Season is officially in full swing, I’m in full scary movie mode. Each night I’ve been having mini-marathons featuring the best-of-the-best Halloween movies.

October’s a terrific time to settle down, bake some pumpkin bread, and screen old favorites like Hocus Pocus, Casper, Halloweentown, Twitches, and more! It’s about being cozy as the weather transforms to that winter wonderland that never seems to happen anymore.

And even though New York is experiencing an unseasonably hot fall, I’m fully committed to the cold weather part of this season. I brew a different soup each week, pumpkins adorn my apartment, and I indulge in ghost stories.

One of my favorite trips as a kid was when my parents took me to Salem, Massachusetts after I’d read The Crucible. I was captivated by the town’s haunting atmosphere, rich with the history that each road contains.

Autumn’s a terrific time to visit those iconic places inspired by Halloween classics. It gets you in the spooky spirit, and is super fun to do with your family and get everyone ready for the holidays.

After binge-watching a bunch of Halloween films and shows, I’ve put together a list of vacation ideas inspired by the classics!

If you watch Twitches…Visit Toronto

While you may not be able to actually visit the mystical land of Coventry led by Queens Alex and Camryn, you can visit the actual castle! Growing up, Tia and Tamara Mowry ruled our television screens and Twitches just solidified their reign. There’s no better Halloween movie vacations inspiration than this one!

Casa Loma in Toronto, Canada has been featured in many popular films, including the castle in both Twitches and Twitches Too. If you’re a fan of stunning architecture, the Halloween classic, or just want to feel like royalty…this vacation spot is perfect for you.

If you watch Casper…Visit Maine

Not only is Casper a friendly ghost, it’s an early Christina Ricci movie that established her as a teen idol. So, if you’re feeling super supernatural and want to immerse yourself in the Casper culture, go to Camden, Maine!

The 1995 film was primarily filmed in the Pine Tree State, which is known for its gorgeous fall foliage. You’re guaranteed picturesque views and there are ghost tours galore…so you may even see Casper yourself.

If you watch Halloweentown…Visit Oregon

I would be remiss if I didn’t include this one on a Halloween movie vacations list. One of my absolute favorite Halloween movies is Halloweentown. The original was shot in St. Helens, Oregon, with the Nob Hill Riverview Bed & Breakfast serving as the primary setting for Aggie Cromwell’s house.

There’s a ton of spooky-rich history in Oregon, such as the Klondike Tavern which is said to be quite haunted. There’s lore aplenty and oodles of ghost tours in the area, so you can get spooked around every corner!

If you watch The Shining…Visit Colorado

I recently watched The Shining for the first time and was haunted to my core. But, I cannot deny that the Overlook Hotel is gorgeous. Thankfully, you can visit the hotel without all of the chaos and paranoia.

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado was the inspiration for Stephen King’s best-selling, blockbuster novel. If you visit the hotel, you can take a tour based on The Shining! It’s a genuinely picturesque stay with a bit of eerie history.

If you watch Hocus Pocus…Visit Salem

As I already mentioned, Salem, Massachusetts is the epitome of Halloween. If you want to get witchy, go to Salem where they held the Witch Trials in 1692 because…the movie Hocus Pocus was filmed there!

There’s no shortage of Halloween/fall activities in Salem. Whether it’s ghost tours, witch trial tours, spooky stores, and themed restaurants and pubs, there are fearsome activities and sooooo much fun ahead for you and your family.
