Local officials are scrambling to spin it as “respectful,” but come on — when you’ve got 200 celeb guests descending on a fragile, overcrowded UNESCO site smack-dab in the middle of tourist season, “respect” is basically a PR punchline. Protesters have plastered Venice with “No Space for Bezos” banners, and who can blame them?

Meanwhile, Sánchez — never one to miss a cryptic Insta caption — has been posting dramatic musings from a private jet such as….

“Some years start with turbulence, but that’s just the wind reminding you to spread your wings. Good to be back in the air…Here’s to flying farther than we ever imagined.”

The wedding is less a celebration of love and more a billion-dollar branding exercise, complete with couture gowns and paparazzi bait. Some people are concerned that an extravagant wedding will be far too chaotic for Venice’s locals, but Mayor Luigi Brugnaro is doing everything in his power to shut that narrative down.

Mayor Brugnaro has high hopes that the Bezos/Sanchez wedding won’t wreak too much havoc in the city of Venice. He said, “We are mutually working and supporting the organizers to ensure that the event will be absolutely respectful of the fragility and uniqueness of the city.”

According to People, the city of Venice published a statement, writing, “The many speculations and fake news circulating about Jeff Bezos’ wedding day are completely unfounded. [It] is their utmost priority to make sure the city functions as normal for all, with no abnormal disruption to anyone.”

BTW, it’s no shock that people think Jeff and Lauren’s wedding will set off a feeding frenzy—there’s plenty of juicy drama fueling the buzz.
